Communities

Over the past few years, Uni.Asia General has contributed to a number of organisations in line with our CSR objectives to help and look after the social welfare of the underprivileged institutions and in encouraging community engagement among our staff.

In 2008, we have aligning our efforts to establish a new philanthropy strategy that share the joy of the four major festivals namely Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year with the communities we serve. Our employees at all levels have participated in a variety of activities that make communities a better place to live and work, including but not limited to:

• Orphanage Home Baitul Ilman

In conjunction with the Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Uni.Asia General has organised a community visit to Baitul Ilman on 30th August 2008 with the hope to bring happiness to the children who are devoid of parental love and care.

‘Baitul Ilman’ is an orphanage, housed in a shabby double-storey low cost house located in Paya Jaras, which is managed by Ummu Liza. The orphanage home currently supports 4 single mothers and 20 orphans aged between 1 to 12 years old, out of which 12 are handicapped due to various illnesses.

With cheerful hearts, Uni.Asia General staff contributed mattresses, pillows, blankets, cooking stove, cooking utensils and various essential items towards the compassionate work of Ummu Liza. During the visit, it was humbling to see the children respond with delight.

• Orphanage Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram

Year end is often a time for winding down before starting afresh in the New Year.

While many are geared up for the parties during the festive season, staff of the Uni.Asia General have been busy organising activities benefiting the poor and underprivileged.

Some 30 orphans of the Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram were paid a visit by Uni.Asia General on 4 November 2008 in conjunction with Deepavali, the Festival of Lights.

The visit was part of Uni.Asia General’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to reach out to the least fortunate during the festive season

The home, located at Jinjang, is a refuge for 30 children aged as young as 9 months old. It is sparsely furnished and its children sit on the floor to have their meals or study as they do not have enough of proper dining table..

Besides spending time with the kids and sharing a meal with the children, Uni.Asia General donated food, clothes and groceries. A cash donation for urgent renovation works at the orphanage was also made.
