KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14  — The World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) has been named the Best International Business Event Branding by the Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC) at the MTC Gold Awards 2021 held recently.

The Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) and Business Events (BE) industries were heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily when the government implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO).

In a statement, WTCKL said this award recognised the hard work of over 300 staff at the convention and exhibition centre during the COVID-19 pandemic, which posed unprecedented challenges in organising crowd activities.

Group executive director Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said this recognition presents a positive image for WTCKL to the MICE and BE industry players in Malaysia and worldwide.

“I hope WTCKL’s success can be a source of inspiration and reference to the 320 World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) networks from across the world to move forward and thrive in the post-COVID-19 setting,” he said.

During the MCO, WTCKL served as a vaccination centre, administering over 1.3 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines for five months.

Looking forward, WTCKL has pledged to continue contributing to Malaysia’s tourism, MICE, and BE industries.
